{A bit of doggerel from a friend of mine.}
All Men will Argue at length on the Horse, Debate from the Crust to the Core. And rant, blurt and quibble and as such discourse As on Women, and Power and War. They'll wager their fortunes away on their speed Or sculpt them in marble memorials. And when they’re discussing their beast’s pedigreed Will reach to the deep past primordials. They'll reach back as ancient as old Eohippus To highlight this powerful saga. And with some old hides and some DNA snippets Will try re-inventing the Quagga. They’ll ramble for hours about Przewalski's Horse How it helped made a Khan out of Genghis. And from desert to wetlands, from Arabs to Shetlands They’ll babble on edges and lengthes. But should MY two cents ever be tallied in. My praise goes to no other genus Than a certain particular sub-species rallied in That sub-group known as Asinus. Haulers of burdens and bearers of gods, The choice of both Jesus and Set. Stubborn defier of limitless odds, Maker of mules on a bet. Call them Onager, or cousin to Klangs, Nubian, Atlas, Somali. These are a few of my favorite thangs But one sub-group ranks far more highly. No single species can hope to excel Be they from swamp or from highland Then those certain donkeys who briefly did dwell In paddocks on old Pleasure Island. K. Duane March 29th, 2010 |
